MecoVit

MecoVit® is a microencapsulated synergic blend of nutrients that target and help liver metabolism. The ingredients of MecoVit® help to maintain the general health status of the dairy cow, resulting in a highly productive cow and reproductive efficiency of the dairy cow. Sold in 25kg bags. What the research shows

  • A controlled transition-cow study found that methyl donor supplementation increased serum methionine and slowed the progression of liver lipid accumulation in periparturient Holstein cows, supporting the use of targeted methyl donor nutrition to help manage hepatic fat load around calving. (DOI: 10.3168/jds.2018-14727
  • A dairy cow study found that supplementing folic acid and vitamin B12 altered hepatic metabolism in ways that depended on methionine supply, supporting the role of these nutrients in liver function and one-carbon metabolic pathways during the transition period. (DOI: 10.3168/jds.2009-2796)
  • A peripartal dairy cow study found that rumen-protected methionine improved immunometabolic status compared with rumen-protected choline, with reported effects on liver function-related markers during the transition period, showing how methionine supply can influence metabolic resilience in fresh cows. (DOI: 10.3168/jds.2016-10986)
Limits

These studies assess methyl donor supplementation, folic acid and vitamin B12, and rumen-protected methionine in transition dairy cows, not Mecovit itself or its exact blend, dose, microencapsulation system, or on-farm feeding programme.

What was tested

Research relevant to Mecovit, including a transition-cow study on methyl donor supplementation and liver lipid accumulation, a dairy cow study on folic acid and vitamin B12 in relation to hepatic metabolism and methionine supply, and a peripartal study comparing rumen-protected methionine with rumen-protected choline.

Serum methionine and liver lipid accumulation in transition cows, hepatic metabolic responses linked with folic acid, vitamin B12 and methionine supply, and immunometabolic and liver function-related responses in cows during the peripartal period.

  • The evidence supports the broader use of methyl donors and transition-cow nutrients linked with liver metabolism and metabolic function, rather than proving the performance of Mecovit as a branded product on its own.
  • Results can vary with stage of lactation, dry matter intake, severity of negative energy balance, body condition, diet composition, background nutrient status, and the exact ingredient forms and inclusion rates used.
