Anionic Springer Blend

Struggling with down cows or slow recovery after calving?

Anionic Springer Blend helps reduce the risk of milk fever and other transition issues by lowering DCAD in springer diets. This high-chloride premix supports calcium mobilisation, muscle tone and feed intake, giving cows the mineral support they need for a smooth calving and faster post-calving recovery.

Scientifically-proven features and benefits:

  • Formulated for typical NZ transition diets
  • Delivers a negative DCAD effect to aid calcium mobilisation
  • High in chloride and sulphur – no added magnesium
  • Boosts dry matter intake, appetite and energy pre-calving
  • Supports muscle tone for smoother calvings
  • Low inclusion rate and easy to mix

Get the most out of Anionic Springer Blend

  • Add to the springer ration during the final two to three weeks before calving.
  • Target dose rate is 150–200g per cow per day, depending on the base diet.
  • Pair with a tailored Agvance mineral premix to ensure adequate magnesium, trace elements and vitamins are included alongside DCAD management.

We recommend testing the DCAD of your springer ration to ensure correct inclusion rates and optimal results.

What the research shows

  • Across many trials, lower pre-calving DCAD diets are associated with lower milk fever risk, with effects also influenced by calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and days on diet. (DOI: 10.3168/jds.S0022-0302(06)72130-0
  • A controlled study found that cows fed a negative prepartum DCAD diet had a smaller decline in blood ionised calcium around calving and required less calcium infusion after calving to maintain normal blood calcium. (DOI: 10.3168/jds.2023-23588
  • A study comparing anionic supplement sources in negative DCAD diets found both approaches reduced urine pH and induced metabolic acidosis, supporting calcium mobilisation, while one source improved prepartum dry matter intake without reducing postpartum performance. (DOI: 10.3168/jds.2019-16991)
Limits

These studies test negative DCAD strategies and anionic supplement approaches, not this specific Agvance product. They also do not directly test the product’s exact formulation in typical NZ transition diets.

  • Evidence supports the negative DCAD approach, not this branded product on its own.
  • Results depend on the full transition diet and intake consistency, including the mineral profile of the base ration and time on diet before calving.
