Lameness / Bovine Digital Dermatitis & White Line Disease

What is it?

Bovine digital dermatitis (BDD) is a highly infectious bacterial skin disease affecting the heels of dairy cows and thrives in dirty environments. It causes lameness, long-term hoof damage, impaired mobility, and reduced productivity.

White line disease (WLD) is caused by inflammation in the leg that causes reduced blood flow to the hoof.

Symptoms

  • Visible lesions or sores around the hoof area
  • Visible bruising around the hoof area
  • Separation along the white line of the hoof
  • Reluctance to walk
  • Lameness
  • Swelling and redness around the hoof area
  • Reduced feed intake due
  • Impaired mobility
  • Decreased milk production
