What is it?
Bovine digital dermatitis (BDD) is a highly infectious bacterial skin disease affecting the heels of dairy cows and thrives in dirty environments. It causes lameness, long-term hoof damage, impaired mobility, and reduced productivity.
White line disease (WLD) is caused by inflammation in the leg that causes reduced blood flow to the hoof.
Symptoms
- Visible lesions or sores around the hoof area
- Visible bruising around the hoof area
- Separation along the white line of the hoof
- Reluctance to walk
- Lameness
- Swelling and redness around the hoof area
- Reduced feed intake due
- Impaired mobility
- Decreased milk production
